As Dean of Health Sciences and Medicine from 2004-2010, Professor Chris Del Mar AM (1949-2022) led the establishment of Bond University's very successful medical program. In addition to setting up the medical program, Professor Del Mar fostered Bond's emerging research profile, including leading several National Health and Medical Research Council grants. He was an internationally known researcher on respiratory infections and had extraordinary influence on General Practice and General Practice research. He was honoured with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners highest award, the Rose-Hunt medal in 2008. Professor Del Mar was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2021. The medal will honour Chris Del Mar’s vision and dedication to the Medical Program at Bond. It will be awarded each year to the best performing student in their year of graduation. The medal will recognise excellence and achievement and will form part of Chris Del Mar’s enduring legacy.
